THE HOT CORNER
1
CARDINALS: Closer Jordan Hicks has a torn elbow ligament and the team says it’s determining what to do with the hardestthrowing pitcher in the majors. The Cardinals said the righthander has a torn ulnar collateral ligament, an injury that usually leads to Tommy John surgery. Hicks, who has hit 105 mph with fastballs this season and routinely reaches triple digits, is 2-2 with 14 saves and a 3.14 ERA in 29 games. He has struck out 31 in 282/3 innings.
2
RANGERS: 3B Asdrubal Cabrera will miss a three-game series at Detroit after the reduction of his four-game suspension from Major League Baseball for hitting an umpire with equipment. Cabrera initially appealed the suspension and undisclosed fine from MLB that was handed down Friday, a day after umpire Bill Miller was hit on the foot by a small plastic guard or batting gloves thrown by Cabrera after his ejection.
3
DODGERS: A young woman at Dodger Stadium was taken to a hospital Sunday for precautionary tests after being struck in the head by a foul ball from Cody Bellinger during the first inning against Colorado. She was hit by a sharp line drive by Bellinger and at first stayed in her seat and was given an ice pack, but she left about 15 minutes later for further attention.
4
YANKEES: Heading into Monday’s game vs. Toronto, New York had a home run in 26 consecutive games, one shy of the MLB record set by Texas in 2002.
5
ANGELS: St. Louis fans were ready to give Albert Pujols a warm welcome when the Angel played there for the first time since leaving via free agency after the 2011 season. Pujols received a standing ovation Friday night and on Saturday he rewarded the fans with a home run and a curtain call. On Sunday, after the Angels beat the Cardinals 6-4, Pujols exchanged jerseys with St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina.
