Bridge work to shut I-285 lanes, Perimeter streets

Bridge construction will close expressway lanes and local streets in the coming overnight hours as the rebuilding continues of the I-285/Ga. 400 interchange in the top-end Perimeter area of north Fulton and DeKalb counties.

Two right lanes of westbound I-285 will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday-Wednesday; and three left lanes of westbound I-285, the same hours Wednesday-Friday, between Peachtree Dunwoody Road and Ga. 400.

Backup dates are Wednesday-Thursday and Friday-Saturday, respectively.

The I-285 bridge work also will close the northbound and southbound lanes of Peachtree Dunwoody from Lake Hearn Drive to Concourse Parkway from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday-Friday and from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, continuously.

The recommended detour for northbound motorists is to turn right on Lake Hearn, left on Perimeter Center Parkway and left on Hammond Drive back to Peachtree Dunwoody. Drivers heading southbound should follow the same route in reverse.

Those seeking to enter I-285 should do so from Ashford Dunwoody Road.

Westbound Abernathy Road will be closed at Ga. 400 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday-Saturday.

The exit ramp from northbound Ga. 400 to westbound Abernathy also will be closed, officials said.

The recommended detour is to take Peachtree Dunwoody Road south, turn right on Mount Vernon Highway and turn right on Barfield Road back to Abernathy.
