BASEBALL: Washington Nationals manager Dave Martinez didn’t join the team Monday on its trip to St. Louis, remaining in Washington for precaution­ary medical testing after having a cardiac catheteriz­ation, general manager Mike Rizzo announced. Bench coach Chip Hale managed the Nationals for Monday’s game against the Cardinals. Martinez left the Nationals’ 7-0 win over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday during the sixth inning.

BASKETBALL: A fan was subdued by security after he rushed toward Los Angeles Sparks players Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike while the former was doing an on-court television interview following the Sparks’ WNBA playoff win over the Seattle Storm on Sunday in Los Angeles. Security officials tackled the court invader, a man identified by a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoma­n as Jeffrey Umoye, 28, of the Los Angeles area.

FOOTBALL: In his 15th NFL season, Aaron Rodgers is trying something new. He is wearing a play-calling, cheat-sheet wristband on his left arm for the Green Bay Packers’ home opener against the Minnesota Vikings. It’s speed-dating for football, a way to speed up the process of adapting to the offense and calls in firstyear coach Matt LaFleur. For the first time as a starter, Rodgers is working to get in sync with a coach not named Mike McCarthy.

HOCKEY: National Hockey League players announced Monday they will not opt out of the collective bargaining agreement, guaranteei­ng labor peace until at least 2022. The NHL Players’ Associatio­n announced its decision just before the deadline to trigger its opt-out clause. Not terminatin­g the CBA is a positive sign that negotiatio­ns are progressin­g toward an extension.
