1 Fla. man suspected as serial killer:

A Florida man charged with the killing of a woman whose strangled body was dumped along a road three years ago is now a suspect in the shooting deaths of three other women in the state in the mid-2000s, authoritie­s said Monday. Palm Beach County sheriff ’s deputies arrested Robert Hayes on Sunday in the case of Rachel Bey, whose body was found by a passer-by along a road three years ago.

2 Girl dies of brain-eating amoeba:

A 10-year-old girl who contracted a brain-eating amoeba after swimming in a Texas river died early Monday morning, according to KWTX. Lily Mae Avant, 10, was hospitaliz­ed for nearly a week in Fort Worth after swimming in the Brazos River over Labor Day weekend, Her symptoms began with a headache and fever then her condition quickly deteriorat­ed, leaving her“incoherent and unresponsi­ve.”

3 Heart attack treatment gel shows safety:

A heart attack treatment from San Diego researcher­s has shown evidence of safety in a human study, along with early signs that it might be effective. The treatment from the company Ventrix is a liquid that turns into a gel when injected into the heart. It provides a scaffold for new cells to take hold and repair the heart.

4 Land purchased for Pulse nightclub museum:

A foundation has purchased land to build a museum about the 2016 massacre that killed 49 people at a Florida gay nightclub. The onePulse Foundation said Monday that it has acquired a 1.75 acre parcel about a third of a mile from the now-closed Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

5 Humberto to hit Bermuda:

The U.S. National Hurricane Center says it expects Hurricane Humberto to lash Bermuda with high winds and heavy rain later this week. The center in Miami said Monday that Humberto had strengthen­ed and could become a major hurricane by tonight or Wednesday morning. The Bermuda Weather Service has issued a tropical storm watch for the island.
