1 Sanders’ health: Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders says he was “dumb” not to have listened to the symptoms he was experiencing before he was stricken with a heart attack last week. And he urged others to pay attention to their symptoms. Sanders, 78, spent three days in a Las Vegas hospital last week. Doctors inserted two stents to open a clogged artery in his heart.
2 Admissions scandal: A business executive and his wife were sentenced to a month in prison for paying $125,000 to rig their daughter’s college entrance exams. Gregory and Marcia Abbott were sentenced in Boston after pleading guilty to a single count of fraud and conspiracy. Authorities say they paid $50,000 to have a test proctor correct their daughter’s ACT exam in 2018, along with $75,000 to rig her SAT subject tests.
3 Rising STDs: U.S. infections from three sexually transmitted diseases – chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis -- have risen for the fifth consecutive year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Tuesday. The increases for both gonorrhea and syphilis were the highest since 1991.
4 Pregnancy and vaccines: The vaccines against flu and whooping cough are strongly recommended during every pregnancy. But only about 35% of pregnant women in the country are receiving both vaccines and just over half receive one, the CDC reported.
5 Witness death: Three Louisiana men are wanted in the killing of Joshua Brown, a witness who testified at the murder trial of former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger, authorities said Tuesday. The authorities cautioning that the killing had nothing at all to do with that trial and case. Two of the three suspects were not in custody Tuesday.
