BASEBALL: Aroldis Chapman is staying with the Yankees, amending his contract to a $48 million, three-year deal. The 31-year-old All-Star closer had been owed $15 million in each of the next two seasons as part of an $86 million, five-year contract, and he had the right to become a free agent. The left-hander’s amended deal includes salaries of $16 million annually and a full no-trade provision.

PRO FOOTBALL: The Giants placed wide receiver Sterling Shepard back in the concussion protocol, ruling him out of their game against Dallas tonight. Shepard had just been cleared Friday, but Giants coach Pat Shurmur said Shepard told head athletic trainer Ronnie Barnes that he wasn’t feeling well. He was sent for further examinatio­n, and his condition didn’t improve.

BASEBALL: The Royals declined their half of Alex Gordon’s $23 million mutual option for 2020, allowing the outfielder to become a free agent. Gordon had exercised his part of the option but was allowed to go free Saturday. He will receive a $4 million buyout, completing a $72 million, four-year contract he agreed to in January 2016.

HOCKEY: The Ottawa Senators said forward Scott Sabourin has a fractured nose and was expected to be released from the hospital a day after being taken off the ice on a stretcher during a game in Boston. Sabourin was taken from the ice with his head immobilize­d following a collision.

BASEBALL: Starting pitcher Yu Darvish and outfielder Jason Heyward are staying with the Cubs, who exercised their $11.5 million option for 2020 on left-hander Jose Quintana and declined their $6.5 million option on lefty Derek Holland, which triggered a $500,000 buyout. Darvish and Heyward had the right to become free agents, but decided against it.
