Japanese eatery in Cherokee fails inspection

A Cherokee County Japanese restaurant failed a recent health inspection. Okinawa Steak and Sushi in Canton scored 69/U on Oct. 28. Previous scores were 83/B on Feb. 7 and 91/A on May 29, 2018.

According to the report, food-contact surfaces were dirty with food debris.

Other violations:

■ The walk-in cooler and prep cooler had improper cold-holding temperatures.

■ A toxic substance was in an unlabeled spray bottle.

■ Frozen seafood was thawing in sink at room temperature and not under running water.

■ There is no designated area for employee belongings.

Most restaurants with failed scores are reinspected within 10 days.
