Since 1978, the United States has celebrated its military veterans on November 11. Unlike Memorial Day, which is a time to remember those who lost their lives in battle or wounds suffered in battle, Veterans Day honors all those living and deceased who served in the U.S. military.
Here is a roundup of activities in metro Atlanta to honor those veterans. In addition to these events, many municipalities are also hosting ceremonies and more information can be found on their websites or by countacting those cities and counties.
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10 Veterans Day at the Atlanta Botanical Garden
The Garden will honor all active duty and retired service members with free admission on Nov. 10, and discounted admission for accompanying family members.

World of Coca-Cola Military Observance
Military members already receive free year-round admission to World of CocaCola and can receive four halfprice general admission tickets for accompanying family members through Nov. 11.

Center for Civil and Human Rights Saluting Service Members
Military veterans with proper identification will receive free admission to the center and a 20% discount for accompanying family members, Nov. 10-12.

Veterans Day Weekend at Six Flags
The park will host Veterans Appreciation Days on November 9-10 with free admission for veterans and disabled veterans. Accompanying family members will receive a 50% discount on tickets.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11 Veterans Day at Zoo Atlanta
Military members (veterans, active duty and reserves) will receive free admission to Zoo Atlanta on Nov. 11 and discount admissions for up to six guests.

Atlanta History Center Veterans Day Commemoration
The full 116th Army Band, the oldest Military National Guard or Reserve Band in the country, will perform as part of the History Center’s ceremony. Rear Admiral Wendi B. Carpenter, United States Navy (Retired) will deliver the keynote address. After the ceremony, the Center’s Veterans History Project will provide information on its work conducting more than 700 veterans interviews.
