County throwing a big party Sunday in appreciation.

- By Karen Huppertz

Gwinnett government volunteers and their families are invited to a Volunteer Appreciation Party on Sunday.

The free event runs from 2 to 5 p.m. on the Preservation Lawn at the Isaac Adair House, 15 South Clayton St. in Lawrenceville. It will feature games, food (while supplies last), entertainment, kids’ activities, department outreach tables, giveaways and more.

Volunteer Gwinnett, a countywide program, encourages residents to participate in service activities year-round.

“In 2018, Gwinnett had more than 1.6 million volun- teer hours and 89,000 volunteers directly contributing to the excellent quality of life residents enjoy in our community,” said Muriam Nafees, Volunteer Gwinnett coordinator. “We want to show our dedicated volun- teers how much we appreciate them.”

Volunteering gives resi- dents the opportunity to be involved with their govern- ment operations and participate in events and projects that directly impact the community. Activities range from removing invasive species from park lands, picking out trash from rivers and lakes, going door to door to install smoke alarms, foster- ing animals from the Gwinnett Animal Shelter, delivering meals to home-bound seniors or instructing fitness and language classes.

RSVP to VolunteerGwinnett@gwinnettcounty.com. Additional parking and shuttle pickup will be located at the Gwinnett Annex Building, 750 South Perry St.
