1 SKIING:

Federica Brignone won her first women’s World Cup giant slalom in more than a year on Tuesday, while Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin struggled to find pace and finished 17th. Brignone trailed leader Mina Fuerst Holtmann of Norway by 0.13 seconds in third place after the opening run but the Italian posted the fifth-fastest time in the second to win by four-hundredths.

2 MOTOCROSS:

MotoGP rider Andrea Iannone was provisiona­lly suspended after testing positive for a steroid, the Internatio­nal Motorcycli­ng Federation announced on Tuesday. The failed test came from a urine sample collected from Iannone at the Malaysian Grand Prix on Nov. 3.

3 PRO HOCKEY:

Chicago assistant Marc Crawford will remain suspended until Jan. 2 and then resume his coaching duties after an investigat­ion into his behavior in previous jobs. Several former players accused Crawford of physical and verbal abuse in recent weeks. Crawford apologized to Sean Avery, Harold Druken, Patrick O’Sullivan and Brent Sopel, who spoke publicly about the coach’s actions.

4 OLYMPICS:

Members of the Japan soccer team that won the Women’s World Cup in 2011 will be the first to carry the torch for the Tokyo Olympics when the relay opens its Japanese leg on March 26, 2020. The relay is to begin in J-Village in Fukushima prefecture, about 150 miles north of Tokyo. The area was devastated on March 11, 2011, by an earthquake, tsunami, and the subsequent meltdown of three nuclear reactors.

5 OBITUARY:

JoAnn Buss, mother of Los Angeles Lakers co-owners Jeanie, Janie, Johnny and Jim Buss, has died, the Lakers announced Monday. She was 86. JoAnn Buss was the wife of the late Lakers owner Jerry Buss until the couple divorced in 1972.
