Gallery gives Duluth $3,690 after art event

The Du l uth C ity Council recently agreed to accept a $3,690 donation from the 2 Smith Art Gallery as proceeds from the 2019 plein-air “Paint Duluth” event.

The donation will be credited to the Duluth Public Art Commission Performing Art and Acquisition Fund.

Plein-air is a French term for painting outside. The Paint Duluth 4 event, in its fourth year, included workshops and three days of plein-air painting followed by an artist awards ceremony and a reception. Over 200 people attended the Sunday afternoon reception in 2019, and over 24 paintings were purchased.

Each year the event is hosted by 2 Smith Art Gallery, 3150 Main St., and sponsored by the city.

Proceeds benefit the Duluth Public Arts Commission.

All funds raised help support the Public Art Master Plan and scholarships for Duluth students hoping to continue their higher education in the arts. Paint Duluth 5 will be May 7-10. Information: paintduluth. com.
