1 COLLEGE BASKETBALL: UConn finished off the decade in the same spot where it began — No. 1 in the Associated Press women’s college basketball poll. The Huskies received 19 first-place votes on Monday, beating No. 2 Oregon and No. 3 Oregon State, which both got five first-place votes. South Carolina and Stanford round out the top five. With few games this week because of the holidays, the first 22 teams in the poll stayed the same as the previous week.

2 HOCKEY: Canada bounced back from a big loss to Russia with a 4-1 victory over Germany on Monday at the world junior hockey championsh­ip. Nolan Foote, Liam Foudy and Ty Dellandrea had a goal and an assist each for Canada, with Calen Addison also scoring. Yannik Valenti netted for Germany.

3 PRO FOOTBALL: Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard was arrested late Sunday after police say he pushed his fiancée into a glass wall at their home during a heated argument about a purse. The football player, whose full name is Xavien Dewayne HowardArri­ola, was being held at the Broward County Sheriff ’s Office Main Jail on one count of domestic battery Monday, according to Davie police.

4 SOCCER: The U.S. men’s soccer team will open its 2020 schedule with an exhibition against Costa Rica on Feb. 1 at Carson, California. A roster of players mostly from Major League Soccer will be used for the match, which will follow the annual January training camp.

5 TENNIS: A day after AndyMurray put his Grand Slam comeback on hold, Japan’s Kei Nishikori has become the latest high-profile player to withdraw from next month’s Australian Open, citing a right elbow injury.
