Freshman Cory Munson kicked a career-long 52-yard field goal with no time left after a rules review to give Western Kentucky a 23-20 victory over Western Michigan in the First Responder Bowl on Monday in Dallas.

The Hilltoppers (9-4) drove 36 yards in 27 seconds before Munson kicked his third field goal in four tries. The clock had expired and Munson was given the final play after a five-yard defensive substitution penalty against the Broncos for having 12 players on the field. Munson had tied the score at 20 on a 31-yarder with 1:36 to play. He also kicked a 26-yarder and missed from 29.

Thiago Kapps’ 20-yard field goal with 4:58 to play had given Western Michigan (7-6) a 20-17 lead.

Kapps’ field goal, his second of the game, capped a 62-yard drive that took 5:35 after Western Kentucky had tied the score on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Ty Storey to Lucky Jackson with 10:40 to go. Jackson had 17 catches for 148 yards.

Western Michigan’s other touchdowns came on a 6-yard pass from Jon Wassink

to DaShon Bussell midway through the third quarter and an 88-yard interception return by Kareem Ali in the first half ’s closing minutes.

Storey threw a 17-yard pass to Jahcour Pearson in the second quarter for the Hilltoppers’ other touchdown on SMU’s campus.

Florida State: FSU received huge news on Monday as junior defensive tackle Marvin Wilson and redshirt sophomore wide receiver Tamorrion Terry announced they will be returning for the 2020 season.

The pair’s announcement is a boost for the Seminoles are they prepare for the Sun Bowl against Arizona State at 2 p.m. today.

It’s also arguably new coach Mike Norvell’s biggest recruiting win yet. Norvell will have an anchor on defense in Wilson and a weapon on the outside at receiver in Terry.

“I’m thankful for coach Odell (Haggins’) commitment to perfection every day on and off the field,” Wilson said in a video posted on Twitter. “But my pursuit to perfection is not over with yet. I’m still committed to Florida State, I’m committed to Coach Norvell and I am committed to turning this thing around. See you in 2020.”

Wilson’s decision to return was surprising.

ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. had him as the No. 25 prospect on his big board and the No. 3 defensive tackle prospect in the draft.

Wilson has missed the past three games and will not play in the bowl game after having surgery on the hand he injured during FSU’s loss to Miami. In nine games, Wilson posted the best season of his career, finishing with 44 tackles, 8.5 tackles for a loss and a team-high five sacks. He was a first team All-ACC selection.

Terry has enjoyed a breakout redshirt sophomore season.
