Im manuel Quick l ey’s recent string of impressive shooting performances prove how well he’s used the semester break to hone his perim- eter shot in the gym. Those workouts prepared him for clutch moments that got No. 14 Kentucky past Alabama.

Quickley scored the game’s final five points and finished with 19, Ashton Hagans had 15 with a big 3-pointer late and the Wildcats beat Alabama 76-67 Saturday for their 1,000th Southeastern Conference victory. The Wildcats are 1,000-281 in SEC play.

Kentucky (12-3, 3-0 SEC) led by 15 early in the second half before a cold stretch allowed the Crimson Tide to climb within 63-60 with just over five minutes remain- ing. Quickley nailed a 3 from the right corner with 4:33 left before Hagans followed from near the top of the arc at 2:20 for a 69-62 edge that helped offset John Petty Jr.’s 3-pointer that cut the defi- cit to four points.

Quickley, who hit 5 of 6 from long range and 6 of 10 overall, came out of a time- out to make a 3 from the right corner with a minute left for a 74-67 lead. The Jayhawks lost lead- ing scorer Devon Dotson to an injury for a long stretch midway through the game and couldn’t solve the Bears’ league-best defense. Kansas was 4 of 15 from beyond the arc and committed 14 turnovers, which Baylor turned into a 21-2 edge in points off turnovers.
