1 BASEBALL: Shortstop Trea Turner and the Nationals agreed to a $7.45 million, one-year contract Friday, as the World Series champions avoided arbitratio­n by settling with all of their eligible players. Turner joined lefty reliever Roenis Elías, who got a $1,975,000 deal, and right-handed starter Joe Ross ($1.5 million) in agreeing to 2020 contracts on the day of the deadline for teams and players to exchange arbitratio­n figures.

2 BASEBALL: Following a career year, Oakland shortstop Marcus Semien was rewarded with a $13 million, one-year contract that avoids arbitratio­n and gives him a raise of $7.1 million. Semien played all 162 games for the first time in 2019 to help the A’s win 97 games for a second straight season and the AL’s top wild card. He finished third in MVP voting after putting up personal bests with 33 homers and 92 RBIs while hitting .285.

3 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: West Virginia filled two assistant coaching vacancies with Gerad Parker being named offensive coordinato­r and wide receivers coach, while Jeff Koonz will oversee special teams and inside linebacker­s. Coach Neal Brown announced the hirings Friday.

4 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: New Washington coach Jimmy Lake made his first major coaching hire, adding John Donovan as offensive coordinato­r. Donovan has five years experience as a college offensive coordinato­r — three at Vanderbilt and two at Penn State — but spent the past four seasons working for the NFL’s Jaguars.

5 SOCCER: Former U.S. forward Brian McBride has been hired to succeed Earnie Stewart as general manager of the men’s national team. McBride, 47, had 30 goals in 95 appearance­s for the U.S. from 1993-2006.
