Spanx founder Blakely reports SUV stolen from parking deck
Billionaire’s luxury vehicle swiped from her assigned spot.
Atlanta billionaire and Spanx founder Sara Blakely told Atlanta police she parked her 2018 Land Rover in her assigned spot at the company’s headquarters Thursday. When she returned hours later, her SUV was gone.
The theft happened in the parking deck of The Shops Buckhead Atlanta on Peachtree Road, according to a police report obtained by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“Ms. Blakely did advise me that she left her key fob in the center console,” an officer wrote in the police report.
Blakely parked her Range Rover around 2 p.m., she told police. Security cameras captured two men park in a Buick Encore next to Blake- ly’s SUV, according to police.
“After parking next to Ms. Blakely’s vehicle, (an) unidentified male enters the Range Rover and exits the parking garage,” the report states.
The Buick and Range Rover were seen traveling together on Pharr Road shortly after 3 p.m., according to police.
“My car was stolen out of the parking garage at work,” Blakely said in an Instagram Stories post. “I wasn’t hurt. There wasn’t anything irre- placeable in the car.”
Blakely founded Spanx in 2000, at the age of 27, to sell slimming undergarments. In March 2012, Forbes Magazine named her the world’s youngest, self-made female billionaire. Blakely lives in Atlanta with her husband and four children.
Spanx did not immediately respond Monday to a request for comment on the theft.
Blakely is the latest Atlanta celebrity to make news as a crime victim involving a high-end vehicle.
In October, more than $750,000 worth of jewelry was swiped from a Lamborghini SUV belonging to Tameka “Tiny” Harris, wife of rapper T.I. and a singer herself. Tiny Harris told police she parked the SUV near Bar Amalfi in North- west Atlanta, where she was attending a party. Her jewelry, including her wedding rings, were missing when she returned.
And in September, a friend of “Love and Hip Hop” star Alexis Skyy had her Maserati stolen at an Atlanta gas station while the two women were putting air in Skyy’s tires.
Entertainer Queen Latifah’s Mercedes-Benz was also stolen, but later found. Latifah’s car was stolen in December 2016 from a gas station on Fulton Industrial Boulevard.
