1 PRO GOLF: The PGA Tour is closing in on its next TV rights deal, likely to be announced after the West Coast swing, now that the digital side is coming together. Two people aware of negotiations told The Associated Press that ESPN has emerged as the winner of the streaming sweepstakes, which currently belongs to NBC Sports. Sports Business Journal previously reported that CBS and NBC (and Golf Channel) have agreed to terms that would keep them as the networks through 2030, with a rights fee increase of 60%.
2 PRO BASEBALL: RHP Greg Holland is back with the Kansas City Royals, agreeing to a minor league contract. The 34-year-old, three-time All Star was 1-2 with a 4.54 ERA last year in 40 relief appearances with Arizona, which released him on Aug. 9. He signed with Washington and pitched in eight games at Double-A but did not get called up.
3 PRO FOOTBALL: A day after Andrew Berry was hired as GM, the Cleveland Browns parted ways with assistant GM Eliot Wolf and team VP Alonzo Highsmith. College scouting director Steve Malin also left the team.
4 PRO FOOTBALL: The Green Bay Packers named Jerry Gray defensive backs coach, picking off an assistant who spent the past six seasons with NFC North rival Minnesota.
5 CHINA: Amid growing concern about the spread of the coronavirus , international sports in China have been postponed and Olympic qualifying tournaments moved. The indoor world athletics championships were postponed by a year Wednesday and the international ski federation canceled the first World Cup races scheduled for the mountain venue where the sport will be held during the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The biggest upcoming event in China is a Formula One race in Shanghai on April 19.
