SOCCER:
Olivier Letang quit Friday as president of French soccer club Rennes, which is third in the league and chasing a Champions League place.
The Brittany-based club announced Letang’s departure in a statement. Letang became president in November 2017. Last year, Rennes won the French Cup by beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
FIGURE SKATING:
Two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu finished first in the men’s short program at the Four Continents figure skating competition Friday after recording a world-record score. The Japanese skater opened with a quad salchow and followed with a quad toelooptriple toelopp combination to score 111.82 points and finish comfortably ahead of Jin Boyang of China, who was second with 95.83 points. Jason Brown of the United States was third with 94.71 points.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL:
Visiting Georgia State looks to extend Louisiana-Monroe’s conference losing streak to 10 games. Louisiana-Monroe’s last Sun Belt win came against the South Alabama Jaguars 69-49 on Jan. 4. Georgia State fell short in an 8078 game at Louisiana-Lafayette on Thursday. Today’s game starts at 3 p.m.
GOLF:
First-round leader Madelene Sagstrom held a onestroke lead over American rival Ally McDonald after two rounds of the LPGA’s Vic Open in Australia. Sagstrom shot a 5-under 67 on the Creek course Friday for a two-round total of 13-under 132. McDonald shot an 8-under 65 on the Beach course.
BASEBALL:
Joe Torre, who has headed baseball operations at the commissioner’s office since 2011, is shifting to a role as special assistant to the commissioner. Former pitcher Chris Young will replace Torre as the person who decides suspensions and fines for on-field matters.
