City declares state of emergency; restaurants still open for dining in

Peachtree Corners has joined other Gwinnett cities in declaring a state of emergency due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The city’s emergency dec- laration allows the city coun- cil to meet via teleconfer- ence, a move made by many other government bodies across metro Atlanta.

The ordinance also suspends scheduled public hearings in order to reduce large groups of people congregating in the same place; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended people not gather in groups more than 10. Existing permits that were scheduled for renewal hearings will be extended until the hearing can be scheduled.

Restaurants and bars with liquor licenses can sell to-go alcohol under the emergency declaration. Peachtree Corners did not ban in-person dining, as cities including Duluth and Suwanee have in their emergency decla- rations.

The Peachtree Corners emergency declaration will last for 30 days, and can be renewed at that point for another 30 days.
