City urges residents to stay at home

The city of Kennesaw has limited all restaurants to take-out service and ordered residents to shelter in place during the coronavirus pandemic.

The city’s executive order, which went into effect at noon Tuesday, also limits coffee shops and other places where food is offered to the public to take-out service only. Any restaurant with an alcohol license can offer to sell those beverages with take-out orders. The city’s order remains in effect until noon on April 6.

It also ordered residents to “shelter in place as much as possible,” and issued a voluntary curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Leaving home for work, food, medical treatment, medication or an emergency are exemptions to the curfew, the city said. Kennesaw’s order also bans public gatherings and events consisting of 10 or more people, closes all bars, nightclubs, gyms and amusement parks and requires retail establishments to curtain their hours and operations “to limit the number of customers on premises at any one time to that recommended by the CDC,” the city said.

Residents should note that grocery stores and day cares are exempt from the city’s order. If a restaurant with an alcohol license plans to sell these beverages with take-out orders, they must comply with the following stipulations:

■ Beer, wine and cider must only be sold in unopened containers with in-person, take-out orders. Alcohol can’t be served with delivery orders.

■ Licensed manufacturers of distilled spirits and malt beverages can sell their products through take-out service only.
