Dunn, ‘a consistent voice of wisdom,’ sworn in as mayor

Lilburn has a new mayor. Timothy W. Dunn was sworn in Monday afternoon. Dunn, a former member of council, resigned his post in January — effective March 1 — to run for higher office. He did so at the same time Mayor Johnny Crist resigned his seat to run for the state house.

Crist was electedto athird term as mayor in November. Dunn has been a member of council since 2007 and is retired from Delta Air Lines.

Dunn was the only candidate who qualified for the mayor’s race and was due to be on the ballot May 19. The superintendent for elections in the city declared him the winner because he was unopposed and he was sworn in Monday by Richard Carothers, the city attorney. A spokesperson for the city did not respond to a request for comment about whether there were any changes to the swearing-in process because of the COVID19 outbreak.

In a statement, City Manager Bill Johnsa said Dunn has been “a consistent voice of wisdom on the city council.”

“I’m confident that he willlead the city though the current challenges we face and continue to guide the city in a positive direction,” Johnsa said.

The Post 4 city council seat that Dunn vacated will be filled in a special election May 19.
