State Court to resume in-person hearings

-

The Forsyth County State Court will resume in-person hearings Monday, with the first group of cases to consist of reduced calendars of arraignments for serious misdemeanors and traffic citations, according to a county announcement.

Usually, no more than 40 people per day are expected per courtroom, the county said.

“If a resident has received a notice for a court appearance during the first two weeks of June, they may receive a new court date notice rescheduling their appearance due to the reduced calendar as in-person hearings resume,” the county said.

For those charged with a traffic citation, the citation may be payable or, if it originally required the individual to appear in court, may have been made “payable” by the prosecutor, the county said. To check the status of a citation: forsythclerk.com.

If the ticket is not payable, a person should contact the Solicitor General’s office at 770781-2145.

State court judges also will continue using videoconferencing technology, such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom, to reduce the number of people coming into the courthouse.
