BASEBALL:
Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said All-Star slugger Joey Gallo and lefty reliever Brett Martin are both feeling good but still haven’t been cleared to start working out with the team. Both tested positive for the coronavirus last week. Daniels said Gallo was still asymptomatic and Martin, who has Type 1 diabetes, is feeling better after initially having mild symptoms.
TENNIS:
Wimbledon will pay out $12.5 million in prize money to 620 players despite the tournament’s cancellation because of the coronavirus pandemic, the All England Club said Friday. After consulting with its insurance provider, club officials said 256 players who would have competed in the main draw will each receive $31,000, while 224 players who would have competed in qualifying will each receive $15,600.
PRO BASKETBALL:
The Brooklyn Nets plugged a couple holes in their roster with a pair of welltraveled veteran scorers. The Nets signed three-time Sixth Man of the Year Jamal Crawford and Michael Beasley as substitute players for the remainder of the season. The Nets will resume play without Spencer Dinwiddie and DeAndre Jordan after they tested positive for the coronavirus.
SPEED SKATING:
World champion short-track speed skater Lara van Ruijven died on Friday as a result of complications from an autoimmune reaction, the Netherlands skating association said. Van Ruijven was 27.
PRO GOLF:
Miguel Angel Jiménez moved into position to break his own record as the oldest winner of a European Tour event when the 56-year-old Spaniard shot 7-under 65 to take the secondround lead in the Austrian Open. He was 11 under par overall, two shots clear of five players.
