1 Rapper dies: Malik B, a rapper and founding member of The Roots, has died. He was 47. The group announced the death of the Philadelphia-born emcee in a social media post Wednesday. The cause of death was not released.
2 Nomination on hold: The nomination of a retired Army general for a senior civilian position in the Trump administration was cast into doubt Thursday morning when his confirmation hearing was canceled just before it was scheduled to begin amid signs that he did not have enough Republican votes, according to three congressional officials and an internal email obtained by The Washington Post.
3 Weinstein lawsuit: Actress Ashley Judd can proceed with a sexual harassment claim as part of a lawsuit against Harvey Weinstein, the movie mogul imprisoned for sex crimes, an appeals court ruled. A three-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Pasadena, California, reversed a lower court’s dismissal of the sexual harassment component of Judd’s lawsuit, which she filed in April 2018 against Weinstein.
4 California earthquake: A 4.2-magnitude earthquake and its aftershocks rolled through the Los Angeles area early Thursday, but there were no immediate reports of damage. The U.S. Geological Survey showed that the earthquake struck just over a mile north of Pacoima, a neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley.
5 Reviewing bans: U.S. court 5 officials in Oregon are reviewing bans on future protesting that were placed on some people arrested during protests in Portland after some raised concerns that the prohibitions violated the First Amendment. Portland has seen nightly protests for more than two months .
