Freeman powers victory

- AJC staff

The Braves returned from a season-opening five-game road trip and won their first official game at the newly named Truist Park, a 7-4 victory over the Rays. Here is a quick recap:

The details

So much for a slow start to the season for Freddie Freeman. He went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs. After allowing three runs in the top of the sixth inning to trail 4-2, the Braves answered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to take the lead back for good.

At the plate

The Braves got multiple hit games from Freeman, Marcell Ozuna and Dansby Swanson. Travis d’Arnaud played his first game, after being sidelined to start the season, and went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

On the mound

Mike Soroka allowed three runs (two earned) over 5⅓ innings. He struck out five and walked three. Darren O’Day was credited with the win and Mark Melancon with the save.

Notable

■ With two more hits, Swanson has started the season with a six-game hit streak and is hitting .391.

■ Ozuna is hitting .333 (7-for-21) to start the season.

■ The Braves struck out 10 more times. Their 74 strikeouts lead the majors and are the most in franchise history through the first six games.

Quotable

“It was a different opening day. I still heard some people from the Omni, so that was nice. Saw (reporters) up in the box. There were some people here. Mr. Hank Aaron was here too, so you have to show off for Mr. Hank. All around, it was a good night.”
