1 PRO TENNIS: Wimbledon champ Simona Halep will skip the U.S. Open, saying she is putting her health first and prefers to stay in Europe during the pandemic. Halep, a former top-ranked player who is currently No. 2, won the title in Prague on Sunday. Six of the top eight women in the WTA rankings won’t play in New York.

2 PRO SOCCER: Barcelona fired coach Quique Setien, three days after the team’s 8-2 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarterfin­als. The club also said “profound changes” were coming for the first team. A replacemen­t for Setien was not announced but Spanish media identified Dutch coach Ronald Koeman, a former Barcelona defender, as the frontrunne­r.

3 PRO SOCCER: Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku scored twice each as Inter Milan ended its decade-long wait for a European final, demolishin­g Shakhtar Donetsk 5-0 in the Europa League semifinals at Dusseldorf, Germany. Inter will face fivetime winner Sevilla in the final Friday. Headers from Martinez in the 19th minute and Danilo D’Ambrosio in the 64th put Inter on course to play for its first major continenta­l trophy since winning the Champions League in 2010. Martinez and Lukaku added three more goals in 10 minutes.

4 PRO SOCCER: The similariti­es between Paris Saint-Germain and Leipzig end with both clubs trying to reach the Champions League final for the first time. The French powerhouse will head into today’s semifinal with a high-profile squad, while the German club has a team of mostly untested players and little Champions League experience.

5 PRO GOLF: Stephan Jaeger won the Albertsons Boise Open for his fifth career Korn Ferry Tour title, closing with a 3-under 68 for a one-stroke victory over Dan McCarthy and Brandon Wu. Jaeger finished at 22-under 262.
