1 PRO SOCCER: Lionel Messi scored in his 150th European competition appearance as Barcelona beat visiting Dynamo Kyiv 2-1 in the Champions League on Wednesday. Messi converted a penalty in the fifth minute at an empty Camp Nou. It was goal No. 121 for the Argentina forward in his 150 Champions League and European Super Cup appearances.
2 PRO BASEBALL: Trevor Bauer’s agent says the pitcher is rejecting the Cincinnati Reds’ $18.9 million qualifying offer. The right-hander, who turns 30 in January, was 5-4 with an NL-leading 1.73 ERA, striking out 100 and walking
17 in 73 innings. Acquired from Cleveland on July 31, 2019, he had a $17.5 million, one-year contract that resulted in $6,481,481 in prorated pay. He would earn a $92,593 bonus for winning the NL Cy Young Award, prorated from an original $250,000.
3 PRO GOLF: Harry Higgs tested positive for the coronavirus and withdrew from the Houston Open — the fourth straight domestic PGA Tour event where a player tested positive. Higgs follows Adam Scott, Dustin Johnson and Tony Finau as positive cases.
4 SKIING: A lack of snow and mild temperatures have forced organizers to postpone the upcoming Alpine skiing World Cup races in Lech/Zuers, Austria, for almost two weeks. The Austrian ski federation said the parallel event for women had been rescheduled for Nov. 26, followed by the men’s the next day.
5 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Marshall University will limit the number of people who can attend events to mark the 50th anniversary of the worst disaster in U.S. sports history. The restrictions on attendance are part of safety measures put into place due to the pandemic. Marshall’s chartered plane crashed while returning from a game on Nov. 14, 1970. Among the 75 people killed were 36 players.
