Slain teen’s mom shot in Florida: An unknown gunman in Cocoa, Florida, fired into a crowd gathered at a Saturday burial service for a teenager who was fatally shot by a sheriff’s deputy this month, officials said. The deceased teen’s mother was wounded by the bullet, Florida Today reported. The shooting happened as guests gathered to pay respects to 18-yearold Sincere Pierce. The shot rang out as the pastor had just finished his prayers and the teen’s friends and loved ones were placing flowers on the casket, the newspaper reported.

Protesters detained: Abelarushu­man rights group said over 300 people were detained during protests Sunday in several cities against the country’s president, who won his sixth term in office in a vote widely seen as rigged. The protests attracted thousands in Minsk, the capital.

Extremists kill dozens: Suspected members of the Islamic militant group Boko Haram killed at least 40 rice farmers and fishermen in Nigeria’s northern state of Borno, reportedly in retaliatio­n for refusing to pay extortion, officials said. One official said the death toll could rise to about 60. The attack came on the same day residents cast votes for the first time in 13 years to elect local councils.

President-elect Joe Biden sprained a foot while playing with one of his dogs, but doctors found “no obvious fracture” while examining him Sunday, according to his doctor. Biden suffered the injury Saturday.
