1 Bomb found at polling place: The discovery of a live pipe bomb at a central Iowa polling place as voters were casting ballots in a special election forced an evacuation of the building, police said. Officers called to the Lakeside Center in Ankeny on Tuesday found the device, which technician­s safely detonated. The banquet hall was being used as a polling place for a school district special election.

Palace to probe bullying claims: 2 Buckingham Palace is launching an investigat­ion after a newspaper reported that a former aide had made a bullying allegation against the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle. The Times of London reported that the duchess drove out two personal assistants and left staff feeling“humiliated.” The palace said it was“clearly very concerned” about the allegation­s.

No new gas stations: Anorthern 3 California city has banned all new gas stations in an effort to curb carbon emissions. The Petaluma City Council voted Monday to prohibit the creation, expansion, reconstruc­tion and relocation of gas stations, encouragin­g owners to switch to stations that serve electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles. The city hopes to become carbon neutral by 2030.

Abortion ban passes: Arkansas 4 lawmakers on Wednesday approved legislatio­n banning nearly all abortions, sending the bill to a Republican governor who has expressed reservatio­ns about the move. The majority-republican House voted 75-18 for the bill, which bans all abortions except those to save the life of the mother in a medical emergency. The bill, which passed the Senate last month, does not include any exceptions for rape or incest.

Payment ordered: A judge 5 ordered Mississipp­i to pay $500,000 to a Black man, Curtis Flowers, who was wrongfully imprisoned more than 22 years in a quadruple murder case.
