Trail reopens hours after body found
Workers make find along Peachtree Creek Greenway.
A popular Brookhaven trail has reopened after workers discovered a man’s body Wednesday morning at a construction site.
The body was found just before 8 a.m. alo n g the Peachtree Creek Greenway in the 1700 block of Briarwood Road, Brookhaven police spokesman Lt. David Snively said.
Police said the body was discovered inside a fenced-in area of the city-owned construction site. Investigators do not believe the man was a construction worker and said the death doesn’t appear to be construction related.
“It was actually discovered by the arriving construction workers,” Snively said, adding the construction area will be the site of the city’s new public safety complex.
It’s unclear if foul play is suspected, but authorities closed the popular multiuse trail for several hours Wednesday morning as they collected evidence from the scene.
“Our investigators are going to work to determine if there’s any obvious injuries or visible injuries, anything that might help us understand why this person’s deceased,” Snively said. “We just don’t have that yet.”
Police are also trying to determine how long the body had been there before it was discovered but said Wednes- day it didn’t appear to have been there long.
Detectives photographed the scene and flew drones over parts of the construc- tion site that are tough to access by foot, Snively told reporters.
“We’re also using some of the construction vehicles that are here to access this area,” he said.
Investigators left the scene shortly before noon and reopened the greenway to the public, Brookhaven police said in a tweet.
Authorities have not released the identity of the man whose body was discovered.
