PRO BASKETBALL: Lamarcus Aldridge has played his final game for San Antonio, with coach Gregg Popovich announcing Wednesday night the team and the seventime All-star have mutually agreed to seek opportunit­ies for him elsewhere. The Spurs will try to trade Aldridge before the March 25 deadline. If no trades are worked out, the team could simply buy Aldridge out and let him sign elsewhere as a free agent.

BASEBALL: Yankees left-hander Zack Britton is scheduled for surgery Monday to remove a bone chip from his pitching elbow and seems likely to be out until at least May. Britton, who will not be able to throw for several weeks while the incision heals, is being counted on as a setup man for closer Aroldis Chapman.

CYCLING: Julian Alaphilipp­e sprinted to victory on the uphill finish of the second stage of the weeklong Tirreno-adriatico race in Italy on Thursday, and Belgian rider Wout van Aert remained in the overall lead. Alaphilipp­e, a French cyclist for Deceuninck­quick-step, caught a fading João Almeida in sight of the line and had time to raise his arms above his head as he crossed just ahead of Mathieu Van Der Poel and Van Aert in a bunch sprint.

PRO BASKETBALL: Toronto coach Nick Nurse was expected back on the bench in Tampa on Thursday night against the Hawks, while five players remained out because of pandemic protocols. Starters Pascal Siakam, Fred Vanvleet and OG Anunoby and reserves Malachi Flynn and Patrick Mccaw were sitting out for the third straight game.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL:

Emmett Jones was picked as the interim coach at Kansas as the beleaguere­d school searches for a new athletic director and head coach following a scandalpla­gued week. Les Miles agreed to a buyout of his contract Monday night.
