Georganna Buchanan Johnson, 89, of Atlanta, died on April 7, 2021. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Eugene Thomas Johnson, Jr. and her parents C. Shelton and Georgia Buchanan. She is survived by her daughter, Virginia Cowden (Todd); son, Tom Johnson (Patricia); two grandchild­ren, David Johnson and Drew Johnson; and her grand-dogs, Mercy and Faith. Georganna was born on January 25, 1932 in Washington, D.C. Her family moved to Fort Lauderdale during her high school years, and then to Atlanta where she attended Agnes Scott College. Georganna graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in education. She taught elementary school for nearly 30 years in Atlanta and Roswell. After her retirement, Georganna was active in her history groups of DAR, UDC, and DAC. Georganna loved antiques, traveling, her family and pets, but she especially loved her Lord Jesus Christ. She was a long-time member of Peachtree Presbyteri­an Church where she met her husband in 1954. Georganna continued to teach Sunday School after her retirement. She was a Life Member of Presbyteri­an Women. The family would like to thank all of the caregivers who selflessly loved Georganna through her last years of dementia at Blue Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care. A memorial service will take place at 2:30 PM on Saturday, April 10, at the First Baptist Church of Sandy Springs, 650 Mt. Vernon Highway. There will be an internment service at Arlington Memorial Park, Sandy Springs, at 1 PM, Sunday, April 11, 2021. In lieu of flowers, contributi­ons may be made to Misty Creek Community Church’s Sack Lunch Brigade; to missions at Peachtree Presbyteri­an Church; or to your favorite animal rescue organizati­on.
