Roswell Police arrested a man suspected in a Sunday afternoon shooting in Martin’s Landing residential neighbor- hood. Police arrested Tristan Mcgill, 21, of South Carolina outside The Lake House at Martin’s Landing Apartments.

Police recovered a stolen gun on the suspect, a statement said.

The victim left the scene before police arrived and drove himself to a local hospital with a non life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, Roswell’s Public Information Officer Tim Lupo said.

Investigators believe the 22-year-old victim was sitting in his car when Mcgill shot him near the entrance to The Lake House at Martin’s Land- ing Apartments, Lupo said. The apartment complex is across the street from Esther Jackson Elementary School.

Police were called to the complex about 2:20 p.m. Sunday after several neighbors heard gunshots. When they arrived, people told officers they saw the suspect run into the complex, Lupo said.

“Officers quickly set up a perimeter to contain the suspect and were able to locate and take him into custody without incident,” Lupo said.

Lupo added officers recovered a handgun from Mcgill that had been stolen in South Carolina. Roswell police charged Mcgill with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving stolen property.

Martin’s Landing is an older wooded community of nearly 2,000 single family homes, townhomes, condominiums and apartments. Since Sunday, social media chatter has been filled with neighbors discussing the shooting incident and fears of increased gun violence locally and nationally.

Comments posted on the Nextdoor neighborhood app ranged from descriptions of the “Wild Wild West” to “defund the police.”
