1 New airport: Albania on Tuesday signed a contract with a Swissbased consortium to build a $125 million new internatio­nal airport. Lugano-based Mabco Constructi­ons will make preparator­y work, environmen­tal, archaeolog­ical and other paper work in about two years and then complete the new airport in 36 months.

2 Climate target: The U.K. government on Tuesday set itself a more ambitious climate target, pledging to reduce carbon emissions by three-quarters of their 1990 levels by 2035. The goal was announced ahead of a virtual climate summit that U.S. President Joe Biden plans to host on Thursday.

Judge to resign: A Colorado judge 3 has agreed to resign after the state Supreme Court censured her for repeatedly using a racial slur and making insensitiv­e comments to Black judicial employees regarding police brutality and systemic racism. A censure order by the Colorado Supreme Court shows that the judge, Natalie T. Chase of the state’s 18th Judicial District, agreed to step down after disciplina­ry proceeding­s against her. Her resignatio­n will take effect May 31.

Director dies: Richard Rush, who 4 made rebellious-youth films in the 1960s that featured emerging stars like Jack Nicholson but who had his biggest success in 1980 with “The Stunt Man,” a quirky, expectatio­n-defying thriller that gained cult status, died April

8 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 91. The cause was an accumulati­on of health issues that included heart and kidney failure. He had a heart transplant 18 years ago.

5 Suspected poacher killed:a breeding herd of elephants in South Africa’s Kruger National Park trampled a suspected rhino poacher to death over the weekend. Several other poaching suspects armed with hunting rifles and an ax were arrested, as the park continues to crack down on criminal activity in the country that sees a rhino killed every day.
