Transgende­r bill signed: West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice signed a bill Wednesday that bans transgende­r athletes from competing in female sports in middle and high schools and colleges. The bill had narrowly passed the state Senate, which had added the college component, before it was approved in the House.

Louisville officer to retire: The Louisville, Kentucky, police officer who fired at Breonna Taylor after being shot during the deadly raid on Taylor’s apartment is retiring. Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, 48, is planning to retire from the department June 1, a police spokespers­on said.

Obama ex-adviser arrested: Seth Andrew, a former senior adviser in the Obama administra­tion, was arrested this week on charges that he stole more than $200,000 from a network of charter schools that he founded and used the money to get a lower mortgage rate on a Manhattan apartment, federal prosecutor­s said.

Arizona recount may continue: A superior court judge Wednesday refused to shut down the GOPled Arizona Senate’s recount of 2.1 million ballots from the 2020 election in the state’s most populous county, but he also ordered ballot secrecy and voter privacy procedures its contractor is using be made public.

Age bias suit settled: The Federal Aviation Administra­tion has agreed to pay $44 million to resolve a lawsuit brought by ex-employees who alleged their jobs were outsourced because of their age. When the FAA decided to outsource the work of about 2,000 employees to a private company in 2005, agency officials were open about the aging workforce being a factor in the deal, according to evidence presented in the lawsuit.
