1 Shooting suspect arrested:

A man wanted in connection with a shooting in Times Square on Saturday that left two women and a 4-year-old girl wounded has been arrested in Florida, according to police. Farrakhan Muhammad, 32, is suspected of opening fire during an argument with his brother, striking the child in her stroller as her family was shopping for toys. A woman from New Jersey and a tourist from Rhode Island also were wounded.

2 Embassy can’t hire Russians:

Under Kremlin orders, the U.S. Embassy has stopped employing Russians, forcing the embassy to cut its consular staff by 75% and limit many of its services. Embassy spokespeop­le could not be reached for clarificat­ion on how the mission will handle other jobs also filled by locals, such as security.

3 Hurricane record tied:

A report released Tuesday on Hurricane Zeta, which struck Louisiana in October, suggests the storm was at Category 3 strength at landfall. That upgrade means the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season had seven hurricanes of Category 3 or higher, tying 2005’s record for the most such storms.

4 Backseat nondriver arrested:

A motorist was arrested after an officer observed him in the backseat of a Tesla 3 traveling on a San Francisco Bay Area freeway, the California Highway Patrol said. It’s likely that either Tesla’s Autopilot or “Full Self-driving” systems were operating for the driver to be in the back seat.

5 Death row appeal:

Attorneys for inmate Pervis Payne have asked a Tennessee court to declare that he cannot be executed because he is intellectu­ally disabled. The petition was filed one day after Gov. Bill Lee signed a bill making retroactiv­e a law that bars execution of the intellectu­ally disabled.
