The team had hoped to debut the sculpture for Seaver, who died Aug. 31 at age 75, this season. The Mets are wearing a “41” patch on their home and away jerseys this season as a remembrance to Seaver, the club’s career leader in wins, ERA and strikeouts.

MEDIA: First there was “The Last Dance,” and now the L.A. Lakers take the stage for the encore. The team has announced a nine-part documentary series will air on Hulu in 2022. The project, helmed by Lakers owner Jeanie Buss and filmmaker Antoine Fuqua, will cover the last four decades of Lakers basketball and feature former coaches Pat Riley and Phil Jackson as well as team stars Magic Johnson, Kareem Abduljabbar and Shaquille O’neal.

PRO BASKETBALL: Referee Tony Brown, 54, has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and will miss the rest of the season. The NBA said Brown, an NBA official for 19 seasons, has been undergoing treatment since last month, when he was diagnosed.

PRO HOCKEY: The expansion Seattle Kraken signed the first player in franchise history, agreeing with free-agent center Luke Henman on a three-year entry level contract. Henman, 21, plays for the Blainville-boisbriand Armada of the Québec Major Junior Hockey League. He will join Seattle for its rookie training camp later this year.

PRO GOLF: Matthias Schwab and Calum Hill, without a European Tour title to their name, were the top two on the board after the first round of the British Masters at The Belfry in Sutton Coldfield, England.
