Kyle Wright throws nine-inning shutout for Gwinnett Stripers

Kyle Wright pitched his first career nine-inning complete game shutout, allowing just two hits with no walks, as the Gwinnett Stripers defeated the visiting Nashville Sounds, 7-0, on Sunday.

Wright (9-5) took a perfect game into the seventh inning before allowing a one-out double. The only other Nashville baserunner to reach came in the ninth with a lead off with a single. Wright induced a game-ending 6-4-3 double play. He worked to just one batter over the minimum, throwing 86 pitches, 64 for strikes.

Wright is 5-1 with a 2.70 ERA and .192 BAA over his last six starts with Gwinnett. He is the first Gwinnett pitcher to throw a nine-inning complete game shutout since Williams Perez on May 6, 2016.

Johan Camargo had an RBI double in the third inning and a three-run home run in the fifth. It was Camargo’s 17th homer. In going 2-for-4, Camargo raised his team-best average to .319 (117-for367). Ryan Casteel hit a solo homer (8) in the eighth inning, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIS. Drew Waters went 3-for-5 with a double, run and stolen base.

BRAVES: Activated reliever Luke Jackson from the paternity list and optioned infielder Orlando Arcia to Triple-a Gwinnett. Jackson’s return is a welcomed addition for the Braves, who’d lost four consecutive games before Sunday’s win in San Francisco. Jackson has been the team’s best reliever, posting a 2.09 ERA with a .207 average against across 63 games. Arcia has played sparingly throughout the season. He’s 1-for-11 in nine games this month, making one start.
