1 PRO TENNIS: The ATP tour opened an investigation into an ex-girlfriend’s accusations of domestic abuse by Olympic gold medalist and 2020 U.S Open runner-up Alexander Zverev, the No. 4 player in the world.“the allegations ... are serious and we have a responsibility to address them,”atp CEO Massimo Calvelli said. “We understand Zverev welcomes our investigation and acknowledge that he has denied all allegations.” Zverev’s former girlfriend, Olga Sharypova, first made accusations last year and provided a new, detailed account in August.
2 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: The SEC fined Kentucky $250,000 for violating its access to competition area policy after fans rushed the field at the end of a 20-13 victory over Florida. A crowd of 61,632 watched Kentucky (5-0, 3-0) beat the Gators. No. 16 Kentucky is ranked for the first time this season entering Saturday’s meeting vs. LSU.
3 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Tennessee coach Josh Heupel said Hendon Hooker has earned the starting quarterback job. Heupel had left open the issue of who his starter is the past five weeks after initially picking Joe Milton, whose injury opened the job up to Hooker. The Vols host South Carolina on Saturday.
4 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Wisconsin is listing QB Graham Mertz as questionable for Saturday’s game at Illinois with a chest injury.
4 PRO FOOTBALL: The Washington Football Team placed head trainer Ryan Vermillion on administrative leave for what the team called an “ongoing criminal investigation” unrelated to the club. Federal law enforcement officials served a search warrant at Washington’s practice facility, two people familiar with the matter told The Associated Press. Another search warrant was served at a local home, according to one of the people.
