The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A NOTE TO OUR READERS

- Kevin G. Riley Editor editor@ajc.com

To our readers:

The Atlanta Journal-constitution you’re holding today demonstrates an investment in the future of your newspaper. Our coverage of the Atlanta Braves’ recent World Series championship and the Atlanta mayoral election reveal what that future will be. As the Braves made history with their second championship in Atlanta, we made a bit of our own by bringing you that news in a digital format.

As you know, the World Series and vote-counting in Atlanta ended too late to print the results in your daily newspaper and still deliver it on time, so we reported the results of both at ajc.com and in the epaper. These methods of bringing you the news allowed us to do more, to report later events and to provide that journalism to our customers in ways that we never had before.

That’s a future we’re excited about — and one we urge you to join with us. It’s also one we must invest in, so that we can continue to serve metro Atlanta and Georgia by following facts wherever they lead.

We value you as a subscriber. You fund our journalism, and it’s important we share with you how we continue to press on for you to produce rigorous journalism while big changes are happening across the newspaper industry. Our efforts include providing our legacy print edition to you for as long as we can.

In order to invest in that future, we’ve made changes to that print edition. Beginning this week, some of the daily features such as obituaries and weather are now in a different section. We’ve also combined our first and second sections into a single section of expanded local, national and world news. Some content has moved to our website, ajc.com.

We know changes to your daily newspaper habit can be difficult. If you have trouble finding things, rest assured we’ll help you find your favorite features. Throughout the newspaper, you’ll find locator boxes to guide you — like the one on Page 2. Our customer service team also is ready to help answer your questions.

We announced in September we are moving the printing of our daily newspaper to The Gainesville Times’ print facility in order to make the production of our newspaper more cost-efficient. As a result, we are printing fewer pages and changing the way we organize our print editions. Although our business model is changing, our commitment to quality journalism remains unchanged — in print and in our digital products.

We’re keeping up with the digital world we all live in and the changes in the way people get their news.

While the majority of our readers

rely on our digital platforms, including ajc.com and the epaper, we will continue to serve our loyal print subscribers, in a cost-effective manner, with a quality newspaper seven days a week.

Here’s the most important thing: Subscribers like you get exclusive, full access to our complete journalism. We want to make sure you get the full value of your newspaper subscription, because your support is vital for us to sustain our local journalism.

To read all of our journalism and to get the full value of your subscription, we strongly encourage you to give the epaper a try. We know many people prefer to read the “hard copy” of the newspaper, but our epaper (in the same page-by-page format we use in print) includes more coverage than you find in your home-delivered edition. Look for these enhancements in your epaper each weekday:

■ Mondays: Falcons After the Game

■ Tuesdays: County by County News

■ Wednesdays/thursdays/fridays: Hyperlocal county-by-county sections (Dunwoody/sandy Springs, Alpharetta and Roswell)

■ Thursdays: An “Explainer” section with more in-depth coverage and context for complex issues ■ Fridays: Expanded “Inspire Atlanta” coverage And we’ll continue to publish Sports Extras (Braves After the Game, College Football Extra, Hawks After the Game, etc.) for expanded coverage of your favorite teams. We’ll continue to create special editions for big news events like elections, too, and late-breaking major news events.

The epaper is a product that we’re proud of and that we’re continuing to invest in. We find that readers enjoy it once they discover all it includes and how easy it is to use. And it can be automatically “delivered” to your email inbox by 5:30 every morning. If you haven’t accessed our digital products, our customer service team can help you get logged in to the epaper and ajc.com. You can call 404-522-4141, email us at customercare@ajc.com, or access our Help Center at ajc.com/help.

Our journalists will continue to follow the facts wherever they lead. We will continue to hold public officials accountable. We will celebrate the moments, milestones and people that make our region so special. You will get the real story and know what’s really going on in your community. We will continue to press on and work on your behalf.

Thank you very much for your subscription and support of The Atlanta Journal-constitution. Please feel free to share your feedback.
