1 More flash mob robberies:
A rash of flash mob thefts continued in Los Angeles as organized groups grabbed expensive merchandise in preThanksgiving raids on stores in the Beverly Center and a Nordstrom in Canoga Park. A security guard was attacked with bear spray as several people entered the Nordstrom in Canoga Park on Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
2 Wind farm approved: President
Joe Biden’s administration on Wednesday approved a major offshore wind project to supply power to New York. A dozen wind turbines off the coast of Rhode Island will send power to the eastern end of Long Island. The move inches the country closer to the administration’s goal of generating 30 gigawatts of power from offshore wind energy by the end of the decade.
3 Flood fears: Flood watches were issued for much of Washington as storms associated with multiple “atmospheric rivers” threaten parts of the Northwest. The National Weather Service warned that flooding was possible through Monday in Bellingham and the greater Seattle area. Heavy rains and rising rivers were expected over the weekend.
4 Abortion suit delayed: Arguments over a lawsuit challenging South Carolina’s abortion law have been pushed into the new year. Oral arguments had been planned for next month, but the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals has rescheduled them for late January. Planned Parenthood is suing South Carolina over a law requiring doctors to perform ultrasounds to check for a fetal heartbeat.
5 Fishing fight: French fishing crews briefly blocked French ports and ferry traffic across the English Channel on Friday in a protest for more post-brexit licenses to fish in U.K. waters — and to vent anger at their own government for not doing more to defend them.
