Wake Forest nails down spot in title game against Pitt

-

No. 18 Wake Forest earned a spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference championship game, getting three passing touchdowns and one more on the ground from Sam Hartman to beat Boston College 41-10 on Saturday.

The Demon Deacons (10-2, 7-1 ACC) will attempt to claim their first league title since 2006 when they face No. 20 Pittsburgh on Saturday.

Hartman ran it in from 7 yards out midway through the first quarter and made it 14-0 on a 33-yard pass to A.T. Perry. It was 17-10 late in the second when Bran- don Sebastian intercepted Hartman in the end zone, but BC went three-and out, and then Wake Forest scored on Hartman’s 7-yard pass to Perry just before halftime.

Host BC (6-6, 2-6) ran off three straight three-and-outs — along with an interception — to start the third quarter, while Wake Forest extended its lead with a field goal and a 3-yard run by Christian Turner that made it 34-10.

Miami 47, (at) Duke 10: Tyler Van Dyke threw for three touchdowns and 381 yards, and Miami wrapped up the regular season by winning for the fifth time in its past six games.

Charleston Rambo caught two of the touchdown passes on a record-setting day.

Miami (7-5, 5-3 ACC) broke away with a 20-point second quarter for a 30-10 halftime lead. The Hurricanes outgained Duke 356-85 in the first half.

Duke (3-9, 0-8), which lost its eighth game in a row, finished with its first winless ACC record since 2007.

Virginia Tech 29, (at) Virginia 24: Braxton Burmeister threw for one touchdown, caught a pass for another and Virginia Tech ran for 320 yards and beat Virginia.

Burmeister, who also ran for 115 yards, hit Tayvion Robinson for a 61-yard touchdown and caught a 3-yard pass from Robinson on a double-reverse as the Hokies (6-6, 4-4 ACC) won for the 17th time in the last 18 meetings. They also achieved bowl eligibility for the 28th time in 29 years.

Virginia (6-6, 4-4), limited to three second-half points, drove to the Virginia Tech 9 after recovering a fumble with just over 3 minutes left, but Brennan Armstrong’s pass to Ra’Shaun Henry in the end zone on fourth-and 13 from the 14 with 35 seconds left fell incomplete, capping a wild final few minutes.

Late Friday (At) No. 20 N.C. State North Carolina 30:

34, Too often for No. 20 N.C. State, rival North Carolina has proven to be the thorn in its side — crashing the party in otherwise successful seasons or, more recently, outright embarrassing the Wolfpack in blowouts.

Friday night was shaping up to be more of the same, with North Carolina up 30-21 late and playing spoiler as N.C. State looked to keep hopes of an ACC Atlantic Division title alive. Two touchdowns in 26 seconds kept those hopes alive a little longer.

Devin Leary threw those two touchdown passes in that short span, with North Carolina State recovering an onside kick in between, to stun North Carolina.

N.C. State (9-3, 6-2) beat North Carolina (6-6, 3-5) for the first time since 2018.
