1 TENNIS: Britain, Kazakhstan and Croatia advanced to the Davis Cup quarterfinals by winning their groups Sunday. Britain beat the Czech Republic 2-1 to win Group C in Innsbruck, Austria, setting up a quarterfinal against either Serbia and top-ranked Novak Djokovic or a Germany team missing No. 3 Alexander Zverev. Kazakhstan shut out 2019 runner-up Canada 3-0 to win Group B in Madrid, setting up a quarterfinal against a group runner-up. Croatia beat Hungary 2-1 to win Group D and set up a quarterfinal against host Italy in Turin.
2 PRO HOCKEY: Chris Driedger made 33 saves against his former team, helping the Seattle Kraken beat Florida 4-1 Saturday to deny the Panthers a record-setting 12th consecutive home win to start the season. Florida was bidding to become the first team in NHL history to start 12-0-0 at home; the Panthers now have to share the record of 11 to open a season with Chicago, which had such a start in 1963-64.
3 AUTO RACING: Sir Frank Williams, founder and former team principal of Williams Racing, has died at age 79. Williams took his team from an empty carpet warehouse to the summit of Formula One, overseeing 114 victories and a combined 16 drivers’ and constructors’ world championships as the longestserving team boss in F1 history.
4 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Colorado parted ways with offensive coordinator/ receivers coach Darrin Chiaverini after a season in which the Buffaloes’ offense averaged 257.4 yards per game, the team’s fewest since 1964.
5 PRO SOCCER: Manchester City overcame heavy snow to claim a hard-fought 2-1 home victory over West Ham in the Premier League. Ilkay Gundogan tapped home after 33 minutes and Fernandinho added a late second. Manuel Lanzini scored in stoppage time for West Ham.
