Quake hits Peru: An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.5 struck northern Peru early Sunday, damaging some buildings and blocking several roads with rubble. While the quake was extremely strong, it was relatively deep — 70 miles — which reduces damage. The quake’s epicenter was 26 miles northwest of the city of Barranca. About 75 homes were destroyed but no deaths were reported.

Election results: Kyrgyzstan held a parliamentary election Sunday just over a year after a forceful change of government in the exSoviet nation and voters backed parties supporting the country’s new president, according to early results. Sadyr Zhaparov, who was elected in January, further cemented his grip on power. With over 90% of precincts counted, three blocs supporting Zhaparov emerged as the top vote-getters.

Prince dies: Cambodia’s Prince Norodom Ranariddh, former prime minister and the son of the late King Norodom Sihanouk, died Sunday in France, Information Minister Khieu Kanharith announced on his Facebook page. He was 77. Kanharith, who said he learned of the death from Um Daravuth, a member of Cambodia’s royal family, did not give the cause of death.

The Dude’s lanes foreclosed on:
A Massachusetts bowling alley cited as an inspiration for the lanes in“the Big Lebowski”will be sold at a foreclosure auction in December. Cove Bowling Lanes in Great Barrington has been for sale for years but has somehow continued operating, the Berkshire Eagle reported. It will be auctioned Dec. 15 at 11 a.m., according to Sullivan & Sullivan Auctioneers’ website.

Volcano opens new vents:
Several new volcanic vents opened up on the Spanish island of La Palma, releasing new lava speeding down a ridge and threatening to widen the damage on evacuated land, roads and homes.
