1 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Akron on Saturday hired Oregon offensive coordinato­r Joe Moorhead as head coach, bringing back a former assistant for the Zips to take over a struggling program. Moorhead has been a head coach at Mississipp­i State (14-12 in two seasons) and FCS Fordham (3813 in four seasons) and has been directing the Ducks’ offense the past two seasons. Akron is 3-29 over the past three seasons.

Steelers activated star linebacker T.J. Watt off the COVID-19 list Saturday, giving their beleaguere­d defense a boost before today’s visit by AFC North-leading Baltimore. He did not practice during the week, remaining away from the team’s facility as part of the league’s COVID-19 protocols. Watt’s 12½ sacks rank second in the league.

PRO FOOTBALL: The Seahawks

3 elevated veteran running back Adrian Peterson from the practice squad to the active roster for today’s game against the 49ers. Seattle made the move Saturday due to questions about its running back depth. Starter Alex Collins and backups Rashaad Penny and Travis Homer are questionab­le due to injuries. Peterson, 36, was signed to the practice squad Wednesday.

HOCKEY: Chicago Blackhawks 5 forward Tyler Johnson, 31, on Friday became the second NHL player to have an artificial disk replacemen­t in his neck. Johnson’s operation was the same surgery that Jack Eichel underwent last month.
