1 PRO FOOTBALL: Washington Football Team safety Deshazor Everett was the driver in a crash that killed a passenger in Loudoun County, Va., on Thursday night, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff ’s Office. Everett was driving when his car veered to the right and hit trees before rolling over. The passenger, Olivia S. Peters of Las Vegas, was taken to a hospital, where she died of her injuries. Everett sustained serious but not life-threatenin­g injuries and was taken to another hospital.

2 PRO FOOTBALL: Running back Cam Akers has been cleared to practice with the Los Angeles Rams, taking one of the final steps in his rapid comeback from a torn Achilles tendon. The Rams (10-4) also designated Akers for return from injured reserve Thursday, which means he is in a 21-day window for reactivati­on to the roster.

3 PRO SOCCER: A coronaviru­s outbreak at Everton has forced the postponeme­nt of the club’s match at Burnley, the Premier League said Friday. It’s the third match of the Boxing Day lineup to be postponed as part of a Sunday program. On Thursday, outbreaks at Leeds and Watford forced postponeme­nts of their Sunday matches. Leeds was scheduled to travel to Liverpool and Watford was set to play at Wolverhamp­ton.

COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: 4 Russ Rose retired Thursday as Penn State’s women’s volleyball coach, ending a 43-year run that featured seven NCAA titles, 109 straight wins from 2007-10 and the Division I career victory record. Rose will remain with the athletic department. Katie Schumacher­cawley will be interim head coach.

5 COLLEGE FOOTBALL: East Tennessee State has hired Furman offensive coordinato­r George Quarles as the Buccaneers’ head coach. Athletic director Scott Carter introduced Quarles Thursday as the 19th coach in ETSU history.
