1 COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL: Sasha Stefanovic’s 22 points led No. 4 Purdue (16-3, 5-3 Big Ten) past visiting Northweste­rn 80-60. Coach Matt Painter tied Ward Lambert for second on the school’s career wins list with his 371st. The Wildcats (9-8, 2-6) were led by Boo Buie’s 17 points.

2 COLLEGE MEN’S BASKETBALL: Nate Watson had 18 points and seven rebounds as No. 21 Providence beat visiting Butler 69-62. The Friars (16-2, 6-1 Big East) are unbeaten at home in conference play, and coach Ed Cooley collected his 210th victory at Providence.

3 PRO SOCCER: Francisco “Paco” Gento, a Real Madrid great who is the only player to win six European Cup titles, has died. He was 88. Madrid announced Gento’s death but did not give a cause. Gento played with Madrid from 195371 and his 23 titles with the club in official competitio­ns is a record he shares with Brazilian defender Marcelo. Gento also helped Madrid win 12 Spanish league titles.

4 WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: The Phoenix Mercury hired former Las Vegas Aces assistant Vanessa Nygaard as their next head coach, a person familiar with the hire told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the hire won’t be officially announced until today. Nygaard replaces Sandy Brondello, whose contract wasn’t renewed after eight seasons and taking the team to the 2021 WNBA Finals.

5 SKIING: Beat Feuz was 0.21 seconds ahead of teammate Marco Odermatt in a clear 1-2 finish for Switzerlan­d’s downhill stars on the Streif course in Austria, the last World Cup speed race before the Olympics . ... Dave Ryding became the first British winner in the 55-year history of the Alpine skiing World Cup on Saturday. Norwegian Lucas Braathen finished 0.38 seconds behind in second.
