1 Men sentenced in ventilator

theft: Two Miami men have been sentenced to 41 months in federal prison for stealing ventilator­s bound for a COVID-19 intensive care center in El Salvador, officials said. The ventilator­s, worth $3 million and owned by the United States Agency for Internatio­nal Developmen­t, were stolen in South Florida. Yoelvis Denis Hernandez, 42, and Luis Urra Montero, 25, pleaded guilty to theft of government property.

2 News Corp data breached: News Corp, publisher of The Wall Street Journal, said Friday that it had been hacked and had data stolen from journalist­s and other employees. A firm investigat­ing the intrusion said Chinese intelligen­ce-gathering was believed behind the operation.

3 Teachers protest: Thousands of teachers across Puerto Rico left their classrooms and took to the streets Friday to demand higher wages, improved working conditions and better pensions. “We are tired, tired of not being recognized,” said Joalice Santiago, who teaches fourth and fifth graders. “It’s about time that teachers rise up and explain to the world the value of their profession.”

4 Bridge change fought: A plan to temporaril­y dismantle a recently restored historic bridge in the Dutch port Rotterdam so that a huge yacht, reportedly being built for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, can get to the North Sea is unlikely to be smooth sailing. Reports that the city had already agreed to take apart the Koningshav­en Bridge sparked anger, with one Facebook event set up calling for people to pelt the yacht with rotten eggs.

Cooley, who co-founded the Environmen­tal Defense Fund more than 50 years ago, has died. Cooley, 87, helped launch the group, now one of the world’s leading environmen­tal organizati­ons, from his living room.
