SKI JUMPING: The thirdround 1 of training for women’s ski jumpers at the Beijing Olympics has been canceled due to windy conditions. Wind gusts were measured at 16 mph. To make the conditions even more brutal, it was 16 degrees. The 40 women in the field had two jumps each, a day after having three rounds of training.

FIGURE SKATING: Chinese

2 figure skating judge Huang Feng, who was suspended in 2018 for biased judging at the Pyeongchan­g Olympics, was among the three officials on the technical panel for the team event to start the Beijing Games.

NORDIC COMBINED: Nordic

3 combined star Jarl Magnus Riiber of Norway has tested positive for COVID-19. The 24-year-old Riiber is No. 2 in the World Cup rankings after a three-year run of being the top-ranked athlete in the sport that combines ski jumping and cross-country skiing. He fell just short of a medal twice at the 2018 Olympics, finishing fourth in the large and normal hill competitio­ns.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY: Finland 4 women’s hockey coach Pasi Mustonen is leaving the Beijing Winter Games to return home and attend to a family emergency. General manager Tuula Puputti said assistant coach Juuso Toivola will assume head-coaching duties. The switch comes a day after Finland opened the tournament with a 5-2 loss to the United States.

OPENING CEREMONY: It has 5 become an Olympic tradition: the shirtless athlete in the opening ceremony. And Tonga’s Pita Taufatofua now has some company. Meet Nathan Crumpton. Born in Kenya, resident of Utah, skeleton athlete formerly with the U.S. and now competing for American Samoa — and he grabbed attention Friday night by walking in shirtless and undeterred by a temperatur­e of 23 degrees.
