1 PRO FOOTBALL: Pro Bowl offensive lineman Ali Marpet caught the Buccaneers off guard, announcing his retirement from the NFL at age 28. Marpet helped the 2020 Buccaneers win the Super Bowl and was a first-time Pro Bowl selection in 2021. He did not give a reason for his retirement.

2 PRO SOCCER: Former Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon renewed his contract with seconddivi­sion club Parma through the 2023-24 season — meaning he plans to play until he’s at least 46. Buffon, 44, joined Parma in June more than a quarter century after beginning his legendary career with the team.

3 PRO BOXING: British boxing authoritie­s are investigat­ing the scoring of a world title fight that saw Scottish fighter Josh Taylor retain his light-welterweig­ht belts in a split-decision victory. English challenger Jack Catterall outboxed Taylor and landed more successful punches than his rival in Saturday’s bout but two of three judges still scored in favor of the champion, who was fighting in his home country. Catterall’s trainer, Jamie Moore, described the scoring as “disgusting” and said his previously unbeaten fighter was“robbed.”it was Taylor’s first defense of his WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO belts.

4 SKIING: Five-time Olympic medalist Kjetil Jansrud will end his ski racing career at home in Norway on Saturday. The 36-yearold said he will finish at the course where he got the first of his 23 World Cup wins. Jansrud is retiring weeks after recovering from a knee injury in time to compete at the Olympics.

5 PRO TENNIS: Spain’s Pedro Martinez won the Chile Open claycourt tournament in Santiago with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Argentina’s Sebastian Baez, Martinez’ first profession­al title. Baez was also attempting to win his first pro title.
